Date Night avoids chains like rich people avoid paying income taxes. Every now and then, though, a newer chain pops up that catches our eye. Brixx opened up a few months ago near Date Night headquarters in East Cobb, and we finally get over to check it out on a lunch date.
Brixx started in Charlotte and now they have 21 locations throughout the southeast, including two in Atlanta. (The other one is in Peachtree City.) These three words draw us to Brixx: wood fired pizza.
The wood oven is the centerpiece of the restaurant and the first thing you see when you walk in. It’s blazing and ready to cook us some pizza.
There are over 20 choices of pizza on the menu, which makes it very hard to choose. Or, to mix things up even more, you can just make your own. You also get to pick the crust, either regular or whole wheat. There’s even a gluten-free. From vegans to meat lovers, Brixx has you covered. We order two pizzas. First up, the wild mushroom.
Under the healthy arugula are portobello, shiitake and button mushrooms.
There’s no tomato sauce, making this a “white” pizza. This is an enjoyable pie. The arugula is like a salad on the wood-fired crust, and the flavor of the mushrooms erupts in your mouth.
My date usually gets a basic pizza like a margherita, but today she surprises me and orders the rosemary chicken and mushroom pizza.
I like the big chunks of rosemary-infused chicken on this pie. Combine it with four cheeses and those mushrooms and we have another winner In case you are wondering about portion size, we both take two pieces home for a future lunch. One pizza probably isn’t enough to share, unless you get some appetizers or a big salad.
We are pleasantly surprised by the beer list and its emphasis on local craft beers on tap.
There’s not a single Bud Light or Miller Lite in any of these taps. Too bad it’s lunch time and we aren’t having any beer today.
The staff knows the menu and we are visited by the franchise owner. They are very friendly here.
Here’s something else we like, specials for adults. On Mondays, most draft beers are only $2.50 and for wine lovers, they have half price bottles on Sunday nights. Night owls will be happy too. Pizzas and apps are two for one after 9PM every night. If only we could stay up that late. There are too many specials to list here, but you can find them on the East Cobb Brixx website.
